WHAT: 350.org International Day of Climate Action in Santa Fe, NM - Human 350 Postcard, Coal March, Procession of Trees, and Critical Mass Bike Ride to the Roundhouse, and Rally to demand action on climate change, plant trees, and deliver a powerful message (both literally and figuratively) to our representatives.
WHEN: Saturday, October 24, 2009 1-4PM
WHERE: 1:00 CCA – for 350 Human Postcard, 2:00 March to Roundhouse departs from CCA and marches down Old Pecos/Old Santa Fe Trail. Rally at Roundhouse (West side).

    If the individual and idiosyncratic people of Santa Fe have a universal sport, it is hiking. Trail hiking is the simplest and most direct way to explore the mountains and arroyos that surround The City Different. Of course, A Walk in the Woods is also a superb way to escape (often with your dog) the paved confines of the city. Conveniently, you can celebrate America's 200,000 miles of trails (with a friend) this Saturday, June 6, 2009 at a National Trails Day celebration.

    What does Earth Day mean to you? Is it a call to action, urging each of us to respect and protect our planet? Or, is it just another marketing ploy, seducing us into buying another 'recyclable' gizmo? Some folks have grown so jaded by the commercialization of Earth Day (sound like another holiday to you?) that they are saying Screw Earth Day! Scientists and environmentalists have been ringing the alarm bells so loud and long that deafness has become an occupational hazard.

    The local newspaper recently ran an article headlined 'Water experts: Southern N.M. has ample supply'. That headline is grossly misleading and is contradicted twice within the first 4 sentences of the article.

    The days are short, nights long and the ground is cold. Winter isn't a great time for planting, but it is a time for planning a garden. Last fall we planted everything from an apple tree to iris bulbs, but there is still much to be decided for spring planting. While the snow flies we are thinking ahead to the gardening season.
